Gym Leaders

Here are the gym leaders that you'll find in the Lusola Region!

Like all Pokemon games, there are eight gym leaders.

Bryan

Fighting-type Gym Leader of Sedghi Valley.

Upon his defeat, he'll give you the Honesty badge. With that, you will be able to use Cut outside of battle to cut down the little trees that sometimes block paths! Additionally, he'll teach you how to sure-hit moves using Prisma energy.

Tips:
  • Be careful! During his fight, he will use Prisma Energy to turn one of the moves he uses into a sure-hit move. He will only do this when he's down to his last Pokemon.
  • He has a ghost-type in his team, so you'll want to avoid using a normal-type pokemon during this fight!
  • Try to find a flying-type pokemon and use that to help you reach victory!

Tips:
  • Her first Pokemon will start a sandstorm when it gets hit by a move. If you can find access to a weather move to change the weather, it'll help especially since her last pokemon is a tank.
  • Her second Pokemon is holding a rock gem, boosting the power of its next rock-type move. Additionally, it has Magician, which will then take one of your items once its rock gem is used up. Be careful!
  • She will terastalize her final Pokemon to rock-type, making its rock-type moves deal more damage!

Tips:
  • This is the first double-battle Gym Battle in the game! Be careful with your choices!
  • Emile's strategy is to use sound-based moves to be able to continually repeat the same moves with Orchestrate. If you can find a Pokemon with Soundproof, this fight will be a breeze.
  • Emile's Gusora is the most dangerous threat with both Unburden and a consumable item paired with a recovery move that can make it last for a long time. Try to knock it out before it gets out of hand.

  • Veronica's signature move, Overclock, will buy you an extra turn so try to knock out the enemy before she starts attacking.
  • She will always Dynamax her final Pokemon after it uses Overclock, so don't count on her wasting her Dynamax turns!

Additionally, depending on the version of your game, he will teach you how to use Prisma energy to perform either Z-Moves (in Opal) or Mega-Evolution (in Obsidian). You will have to rematch him right before the Elite Four to get the other ability.

Tips:
  • He will try to set up rain, so try to change the weather if you can.
  • Plenty of his Pokemon are very tanky, so try to inflict status effects since he has no way to cure that from his team.
  • Destan will use both a Z-Move and Mega-Evolve his Pokemon. He will only use the Z-Move when he is down to two Pokemon left, and he has a choice of Mega-Evolving either Thermomenon or Primarina but he will only Mega-Evolve when he has two or less Pokemon left.

  • Her Cristaluna is 2x weak to fire-type moves, don't underestimate fire for this fight!
  • When she is down to her last two Pokemon, she will either Terastalize or Dynamax one of her last two Pokemon, so be careful! She will also use a Z-Move at this point if she can.
